Mockingjay
Suzanne Collins
As the last book in the series, it was the perfect ending. It had me traumatized and happy at the same time. I highly recommend the series to anybody into dystopian books.

I thought it was really funny but we kinda need more characters. There's not enough drama and crazyness going on the book.

Zodiac Academy 1: The Awakening
Caroline Peckham
Read October 20th, 2025. This book was pretty intriguing. Although the concept was interesting, it felt like the world revolved around the main characters. it was a very self centered plot, where every extremely unfortunate or lucky thing happened to them which kinda put me off, but it was okay i guess. the world building needs a little more work but the characters themselves are not bad.

The Silent Patient
Alex Michaelides
This book was not bad. It was hyped up too much so i thought that the plot and the ending and the plot twists were going to be more exciting. But i thought that everything was pretty predictable. I’ve read better thrillers and mysteries so i feel that that also adds to my overall opinion of this book. Cool concept though. However i prefer the housemaid series rather than this standalone.

No Country for Old Men
Cormac McCarthy
Well.. I wrote an entire review for this and then it wasn’t going into the system so this might be abridged. I thought this book was boring and my AP Lang teacher is honestly not helping. Before you start wondering if maybe I’m just being insular or something of the sort, I promise I can enjoy books that aren’t all action and I can enjoy books that aren’t full of imagery. But, about 70% of this book was just Moss or Chigurh running around Texas and doing random things without the audience getting any information about their internal monologue. It was literally line by line listing their actions without any embellishments. The most descriptive the book got was describing their guns.. I swear I know more about Moss’s gun than Moss as a character. And when the sentences weren’t boring and unnecessary, they were run on sentences for absolutely no reason. Why do we need a run on sentence to describe the characters actions? We’re allowed to use the words “then he” or “next he” and commas exist too!!! I also felt that since we basically got no true understanding of the character’s (especially Chigurh) true natures, Bell’s italicized monologues were just there to prove that there was a point and deeper meaning to the whole story. Yes, I understand that not every book needs to be first person with crazy internal monologues, but with the rest of the book being so boring I really could’ve used it. I was even bored during the gunfight scenes. How is that even possible?? Am I supposed to be entertained after just hearing a list of the characters actions? I don’t feel the tension or emotion from that. I honestly only cared about Moss’s death because the hitchhiker died too and I felt bad for Carla Jean. The only character that I genuinely liked was Bell because he was nice to his wife and had thoughts. Sorry to anyone who liked this book.. hopefully I like the movie more.

Graveyard Shift
M.L. Rio
I’m back with more Rio!! Unfortunately, I wasn’t as in love with this as I was with If We Were Villains… but it’s okay! Hopefully Hot Wax will be a bit better. Honestly, I really liked the characters and a lot of them had potential. I also really liked the macabre vibe of the novel. I understand Rio’s goal to make it seem like a one-night story, but I don’t think that she gave the characters enough time to fully develop or for the plot to lay out in a meaningful way. Also, the resolution of the novel isn’t my favorite and we don’t really get much satisfaction from the “bad guys” getting caught because it didn’t really take that long in the first place. Honestly, I didn’t really feel the “high stakes” in this book. It’s a short little read for Halloween, not one of my favorites and honestly not a lot much happened overall.. Still, could be worse. It doesn’t have the worst writing problems, besides some questionable slang and things of that sort. I love Tuck he is my baby <3
